The hotel is built on the site where in the antiquity was located the amphitheatre / arena of Roman Serdica (this was the Thracian name of the city, which was then used by the Romans). The remains of this amphitheatre, which was erected in the far 3d century AD and reconstructed in the next 4th century, you can see exposed in the ground floor of the property. They are really impressive with their size and are another proof, that in the 3d and mostly 4th century Serdica was one of the most important cities on the Balkan Peninsula.
